#HowToWearIt - City Chic Hair
Posted on October 08 2014
What is every hair and makeup artist’s dream? Working in a big city doing high fashion hair and makeup. Recently, Alisha Sims Photography took us on a trip to Chicago to shoot some of Single Thread Boutique's fall styles. Getting an opportunity to go work in Chicago for a weekend and getting city chic shots was a dream come true! Sleek, edgy city styles are my favorite right now, so I took advantage of my surroundings and had fun with the hair styles!
This blue crop top with the leather leggings was nothing short of the perfect city look. What’s more city than BIG HAIR? With this outfit I gave Taylor lots of volume! The bigger, the better is my favorite motto and this outfit was my perfect opportunity to use it. By backcombing your hair at the crown and base it gives your hair height. It's an easy and fast way to style your hair, and for my daily use the only way to style your hair!
This outfit screams edgy. From the military-style vest to the combat boots. For this look I had Taylor’s hair down since she was wearing the hooded vest. Since Taylor has longer hair, wearing it down gave it more of a casual vibe and turned her from edgy city girl to edgy city BABE. This hair style seems and looks way harder to achieve than it is. When you’re trying to recreate this hairstyle remember that the messier the better! Make it look like you did a lot, without you actually having to do it. And when you feel like your curls are a little too tight for what you’re looking for, shake it out!
Can I just say that I am LOVING the gold studs on this dress paired with the army green denim vest?! The gold peeks through the vest just enough to give it a high class look with half the effort. This outfit gave me so much room to play with her eyeshadow colors! Clearly, a black and gold smokey eye is the perfect choice for this outfit. My Urban Decay Naked 2 Palette is filled with all nude colors, and is my favorite to use for anything and everything. For this look specifically I used the colors Half Baked, YDK, and Blackout.
The next outfit is a total stunner! This dress is a unique, one-of-a-kind style and it instantly pulls your eyes to the detail of the dress. We went for simple, messy side bun because not only is it an easy look to pull off, but it gives the dress more of a casual vibe. We LOVE the look paired with booties to make it a little edgy. For make up, we kept it simple since the dress speaks for itself!
When we're doing shoots like this, you have to be ready to change the hair style of the models within minutes. These hair and makeup looks are easy to achieve, so check back for quick tutorials on these styles! I can’t wait to see what new adventures STB is taking on next! Stay tuned!
