You Need to Clean Those Brushes!

It’s something I should do much more often.  It’s not eating more vegetables (which I totally need to do too!  Do Veggie Straws not count?!) or even taking vitamins.  It’s cleaning my makeup brushes!  Anyone else with me?  The last thing I want to do after work is scrub out last week’s blush.

But I finally did it!  Those babies are as clean as a whistle.  I had to question if I was brushing little clouds on my face this morning.   So it was worth it!  *sigh*  I guess I’ll have to make it a regular thing.

Now whenever I clean my brushes, I usually use baby shampoo.  Cheap and effective.  I’ve heard that Dawn dish soap is great too!  I typically get a Solo cup, put a splash of water in the bottom with a dollop of baby shampoo.  I soak my brushes in the solution and swirl them in the bottom of the cup.  It gets the majority of the gunk out.

I do a second cleanse in the palm of my hand to really get them sparkling.  I go to town swirling it while running it under some water.  When the water runs clear, you’re done!  I wring out as much water from the brush as I can and reshape it.  I put it on a washcloth to dry overnight.  Voila!  Clean brushes!

Now awhile back I heard about the Sigma Brush Cleaning Glove.  Great concept, don’t get me wrong.  It helps give your brushes a deep clean.  But look at it.  It looks like an oven glove!  I’m not paying $39.00 for a freakin’ silicone oven glove I can pick up at Target for a fraction of the price.  <--was that="" just="" a="" rant="" p="">

So while doing a little research for this post, I ran across this little gem.  Smaller than the Sigma glove, but still mighty powerful, or so I’ve heard.  And it’s $8.  I can do that.

I did pick this up awhile back, but haven’t tried it yet.  It’s the Sephora Collection Solid Brush Cleaner.  It’s sold for $14.00 and has 4.8 stars out of 5.  More expensive than my baby shampoo, yes, but I was intrigued.  It has a solid bar cleanser that you get wet and work your damp brushes into.  And then it has a mini silicone disk to deep clean.  I’m sure I’m gonna like it!

That was entirely too long of a post about brush cleansing.  Right?  Better go.  :)
